Iraqi Kids Dream of Artificial Limbs

I thought that I was the only child without a leg in Iraq," Mukhaled said.
"But one day I went with my mum to a local aid agency looking for help and I was surprised when I saw so many children without limbs."
According to local aid agencies and health Ministry officials, at least 4,000 children, aged between one and ten, are disabled or handicapped.
Anbar province represents about 20 percent of this number.
"It is hard to know the exact number of disabled children in Iraq but we estimate thousands of victims as a result of the war and the daily violence countrywide," says Taha Abdel-Rahman, a Health Ministry media officer.
"In each explosion or clash at least two children are victimized, most of them leave hospitals, if not dead, with serious injuries without limbs or with burning signs."
Rahman also notes that unexploded ordnance also claim many victims, mostly children
